Eighteen year-old Alicia Aylies was crowned Miss France 2017, in a competition held in the southern French city of Montpellier over the weekend.

Aylies represented French Guiana, and her parents hail from Martinique, another French territory. She is currently studying law at the University of Guyana and hopes to be a lawyer, but hasn’t ruled out a career in modeling in the near future. She is also an avid fencer.

Aylies, who fought back tears when her big win was announced, competed against Guadelope and Lorraine in the final round.
