Two years ago the Colombian born artist was cleaning offices and selling his works for under $3,000. In June of 2011, one of his works sold for $389,199 at Christies in London, setting off one of the most rapid ascents ever seen for such a relatively young contemporary artist. Now 27, Oscar Murillo is holding his first solo show at South London Gallery this week and his paintings are expected to command $60,000-$80,000. It’s no surprise Murillo is garnering comparisons to another once-outsider artist.
