Zoya Taylor is an artist of Jamaican descent, born in Canada, who currently lives and works in Oslo, Norway. She says of the distinct figures in her oil paintings:
“I do not paint portraits but rather the odd and marginal characters which fill the spaces in between. We all have a cast of characters which define our lives. They communicate the different facets of humanity. The insecurity, disappointments, the concealed grief, the hope, the humour and the love. My cast is the cast of the misfit, They are “immigrants” found between cultures, continents, languages and disciplines. My characters become their own characters and in this way hopefully the characters of their viewers.”
