Black Girls Bobsled Too. All About Lauryn Williams.

Lauryn Williams

Lauryn Williams’ recent feat has everyone wanting to know more about the bobsledding “it” girl.

We had to give Lauryn some love, after-all, it’s not everyday you see black women bobsledding, and conquering the sport as that. It still amazes me that she only became familiar with the sport, just a year ago.

Things you may or may not know about the humble star:

-By recently earning a silver at the Olympics, Williams became the fifth athlete to earn medals in both the summer and winter Olympics

-We partly owe Lolo Jones for Williams’ switch to bobsledding. Williams deciding she would take on the challenge after a conversation with Jones about a year ago.

-In the 2012 Olympics Lauryn won gold as part of the U.S relay team (4 x 100 meter relay) and won an individual silver medal (100 meters) at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

-This was said of Lauryn’s conquering the unconventional sport by former track star Ato Boldon, who watched Lauryn’s race: “You’re going to see a lot of minorities in this sport. You’re going to see them say, ‘I was at home and watching Lauryn Williams, and I want to do that.'”
