Brought to you by director Melissa Lowery, “Black Girl in Suburbia” explores a very specific facet of the middle class and upwardly mobile black experience in America not usually explored, the experience of young black women and girls. As illustrated in a recent Atlantic article by Aboubacar Ndiaye, that experience is a complicated one wrought with sexism, racism and social expectations based on stereotypes.
