With a steadily growing and diverse series of markets, designers, shops and unique spaces, the the apparel and footwear industries in Sub-Saharan Africa are worth approximately $31 Billion.

From 2010 to 2015, award-winning photographer Per-Anders Pettersson traveled across 16 African nations and was granted exclusive access to over 40 fashion shows and events. He compiled select images from his travels in African Catwalk, a beautiful hardcover book that also features contribution from Haitian-Italian designer Stella Jean. Jean who often incorporates elements of Afro-Caribbean and West African design and fabrics into her work, remains a big supporter of Africa’s fashion industry.

African Catwalk also highlights the works of designers from the continent who have gained international fame, including Duro Olowu, David Tlale, Gavin Rajah, Thula Sindi, Taibo Bacar, Deola Sagoe, Folake, and Lisa Folawiyo.
