Indian Rapper Uses Nicki Minaj’s ‘Anaconda’ to Fight Pollution and Demand Corporate Responsibility.

You can’t deny her impact. We’ve seen plenty of parodies and interesting takes of the song and video for Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda,” since it dropped last year, but now the tune is being used to demand justice.

Rapper and environmental activist Sofia Ashraf has teamed up with Indian advocacy group Jhatkaa to call out British-Dutch company Unilever, with a protest song set to Nicki Minaj’s Anaconda. According to the organization, a factory owned by Hindustan Unilever dumped toxic mercury in the areas surrounding the plant, resulting in the deaths and severe sickness of many residents of Kodaikanal.

Jhatkaa says that in the 14 years since the incident occurred, Unilever has done little to make amends and correct the situation.

“There’s nothing Fair or Lovely about this trial,” raps Ashraf referring to the popular skin bleaching product which is also made by Unilvever.

The video even earned a seal of approval from Nicki Minaj,

Jhatkaa also launched a petition, which has picked up over 27,000 signatures, urging Unilever CEO Paul Polman to be accountable for the company’s workers and the environment.
