James Franco Set to Direct Film Based on the Epic Zola Twitter Tale.

Zola James Franco

Actor, artist, and Jack of All Trades James Franco is set to direct an upcoming project based on the Twitter story that set social media on fire last fall. Franco will be working with Andrew Neel and Killer Films to craft Zola Tells All: The Real Story Behind The Greatest Stripper Saga Ever Tweeted.

The story will be based on the series of 148 Tweets that Michigan woman Aziah Wells, aka Zola, sent back in November. Wells detailed a terrifying but darkly funny of traveling to Florida with a woman she barely knew and man who she didn’t not realize at first was a pimp. The tale is rife with exploitation, and even a possible murder, but Wells’s clever turns of phrase and penchant for story-telling made the “Zola” story absolutely addictive. Wells’s version of the story of her trip to Florida sparked memes, thinkpieces, and even a fake trailer. Investigative journalists also worked to uncover the tale; and the former stripper even got a shout out from filmmaker Ava DuVernay.

Fans of Wells are already expressing disappointment over the fact that Franco will be handling her story. But hey, at least she’s getting paid and credited for her story.
