Le Dessein Uses Fashion To Help Empower Liberian Girls.

Le Dessein is a California-based brand, founded by designer Eric Coly. The brand allocates 25% of all the profits from its sales to fund school tuition for girls in Liberia.

Coly, was inspired by his mother, who spent part of her childhood in Senegal, before moving to France with her family, where she was able to receive an education.

“In addition to education, one of my mother’s other love was for fashion – introducing us to it at an early age – often times requesting my assistance with her getting dressed to glamorous soirees and galas. My interest for fashion quickly grew especially with the surrounding of a city that drew a great amount of its cultural inspiration from Europe, especially Paris due to the colonization,” Coly says in a statement on Le Dessein’s website.

Le Dessein works with More Than Me Academy, an institution that provides education for girls living the West Point Slum of Liberia. The academy also provided support for Liberian children in the wake of the recent Ebola outbreak.

Coly hopes to expand the brands philanthropic endeavors to other regions. Check out of some pieces from Le Dessein:
