Lupita Nyong’o and David Oyelowo Set to Star in ‘Americanah.’

Lupita Nyong'o, David Oyelowo

Earlier this year, after author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie promised big news, Lupita Nyong’o had confirmed she obtained the rights to the authors wildly popular novel Americanah.

Variety, the Oscar winner, will star in the film, alongside David Oyelowo. Oyelowo was recently nominated for an Oscar for his performance as Martin Luther King Jr. in the Ava DuVernay directed film Selma.

Sources tell Variety that Oyelowo is set to co-star with Lupita Nyong’o in the indie drama “Americanah.”

Based on the Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie novel, the story follows a pair of young Nigerian immigrants who face a lifetime of struggle while their relationship endures.

Brad Pitt is producing through his Plan B production banner along with Nyong’o and Andrea Calderwood. Plan B produced “Selma” and after having such a good experience working with them Oyelowo jumped at the opportunity to board another project they were producing.

A writer and director have not yet been confirmed for this project, neither has a release date.
