When news of Mary J. Blige’s split from husband Kendu Isaacs first broke, fans were predicting a pretty hard-hitting album from the R&B veteran. With her new single, penned by Jazmine Sullivan, Blige definitely delivers. The track is an ode to heartbreak and it sets Blige’s signature vocals against a very contemporary backdrop.
“This song is so personal it’s almost painful to let out,” she said. “I don’t hold back though. It’s not who I am and there’s now way I am going to start changing now. We all deal with love and the emotions that we get tangled up in, and we gotta survive, grow and remain honest to our best selves.”
