As 2-year-old Mariah Anderson fights for her life, her mother, Kyra Pringle, is fighting to protect her from online bullies.

Mariah’s mother and grandmother are speaking out after discovering that a picture from the toddler’s recent birthday party had been crudely photoshopped and turned into a meme.

The South Carolina family is sharing their story in hopes that the those circulating the photo, will see that Mariah who suffers from Chromosome Two Duplication Syndrome, a rare disorder, is a real person, not just a meme.

“The smile that you guys think is funny or the smile that you guys are comparing to a leprechaun, the smile that you guys are comparing to all these disgusting like…the things you are saying about my child — she’s not a monster, she’s not fake, she’s real, ” said Kyra. “She is here.”

Mariah’s story is already garnering plenty of online support. And the family, who is focused on enjoying what time they have left with Mariah, hopes that the joke will eventually “fade away.”
