Last fall, Netflix announced that it had teamed up with the estate of Nina Simone and filmmaker Liz Garbus to release of a new documentary on the life of the singer. The documentary, What Happened, Miss Simone?, recently opened at Sundance to much fanfare, including an appearance by John Legend ,who performed immediately after the screening of the film. Erykah Badu, Aloe Blacc and Common also performed at a Nina Simone tribute concert sponsored by the festival.

Legend, who recently scored an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win, along with Common for their song “Glory” from Selma performed Lilac Wine,” “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free,” and “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.”

Netflix has not revealed the exact premiere date for What Happened, Miss Simone? — only that the documentary will be available for viewing sometime this year.
