Stephanie Mills Cast As Auntie Em in ‘The Wiz Live!’

Ever since news broke that NBC would be airing a new, live version of the iconic African American classic take on the Wizard of Oz, The Wiz, fans of the original have been speculating on who might be cast to star in the production. The new stars would definitely have some major shoes to fill, as the original starred Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, and Richard Pryor, and also featured Lena Horne.

According to Entertainment Weekly, NBC recently revealed the first bit of casting news. Stage veteran Stephanie Mills has been cast to play Auntie Em. Mills played Dorothy in a 1975 Broadway production of the play. NBC has also revealed that the network is looking to cast a newcomer for the role of Dorothy.

The Wiz Live! will air Dec. 3 on NBC.
