Waris Dirie was born to a nomadic family in Somalia in 1965, she fled Mogadishu at the age of 13 to escape an arranged marriage. While the height of her modeling career was in Paris in the 80’s and 90’s, Waris still models. Today Waris is best known as a human rights activist, author and mother.
