Omou Sangare

Known as “The Songbird of Wassoulou” Oumou Sangaré is a Grammy-award winning Malian artist and women’s rights activist.

In “Yere Faga,” her first original song release in 8 years, Sangaré teams up with former Fela Kuti bandleader Tony Allen. The song is meant to give hope to those who are battling depression and it comes off her forthcoming album release, Mogoya. The album’s title translates to “people today” and speaks to Sangaré’s dedication to singing about and depicting the human condition, particularly for women in African societies.
