The U.S. Army’s new guidelines for hairstyles worn by female soldiers has come under fire the past few months. The new rules appear to target black women who wear their hair naturally with certain styles such as afros, two-strand twists, and neatly maintained locs being outlawed. Wigs, weaves, micro-braids and straightened hairstyles, however, are allowed. These guidelines indicate a lack of understanding of the time, effort and money required for some black women to maintain the “approved” styles.
Luckily for the Army, Jessica Williams is on the scene and ready for battle in “Operation Black Hair”.
