Zendaya recently posted the above image to her Instagram account. The side-by-side comparison shows the original and retouched versions of an image of the star taken by Jim Jordan for Modeliste magazine. The photo on the left shows that the already slim and statuesque star had her hips noticeably slimmed down. She posted the following message along side the photo.
today and was shocked when I found my 19 year old hips and torso quite manipulated. These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love. So I took it upon myself to release the real pic (right side) and I love it. Thank you @modelistemagazine for pulling down the images and fixing this retouch issue.
Ironically, before the call out, Modeliste posted the cover image from the shoot to their Instagram page, and praised Zendaya for “keeping it real.”
Between this situation, and Amber Rose’s recent call out of GQ Magazine, it seems that social media is giving up-and-coming stars a new weapon when it comes to fighting to maintain their images.
