Advantages of Having a Japanese SIM Card

by Tom Brown

Japan is known for its unique culture and work ethic. It is also popular because of their tourist destination spots such as the Nara Park, the Sanzen-in Temple, the Miyajima/Itsukushima Shrine, the Himeji Castle, and the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. Several other excellent places to go to are the Sanjusangendo and the Todaiji, which are considered national treasures and a World Heritage Site. Even their government buildings are beautiful landmarks. Having a phone with a Japan sim card will help in capturing and sharing the beauty of the country.

If you are going to Japan for leisure, you should consider getting a japan sim card. Here are some of the reasons why you should.

You get internet access anywhere.

Japan is known for its superb technological advancements. There are a lot of Wi-Fi hotspots in the metro. But not all areas have internet access. If your travel requires you to connect to the web often, then you should get yourself a SIM that includes a data allowance with a 4G LTE data speed.

Avoid bill shock due to roaming.

Your current carrier probably offers a roaming service. It may look tempting and too perfect to be true. But have you ever heard of bill shock? The shock of seeing your bill is what happens after you use your phone’s roaming package. Unfortunately, some telecommunication companies do not lay down the fine print for your phone’s roaming deal. Intentional and accidental data usage can unexpectedly incur a lot of charges, even during the first few minutes of usage. Having a japan sim card eliminates the worries of coming home to a phone bill you do not expect.

You can immediately use your phone upon touchdown.

Whether it is a family or work-related, there are times when you need to use your phone the minute you step on foreign soil. It is a welcome relief to be able to use your phone in Japan whenever you need to immediately.

You can call anyone anywhere in case of emergencies.

No matter how safe a country is, accidents may still happen. Having your phone ready at all times will enable you to call the police in your current area. You can also call your country’s embassy anytime and anywhere in case of any crisis or problems. In case of any national emergency, you can contact your family with your phone for their peace of mind.

You will need Google Maps.

Japan is a busy place, so getting lost is not impossible. You might not know where you need to go after leaving your hotel or boarding house unless you are an expert in Nihonggo, or have a tourist guide with you. Your smartphone will need data so it can tell you exactly where you need to go, reducing the risk of getting lost in an unknown city. Your Japanese SIM can also help you get home if you get separated from your pack.

You might need an Uber.

Public transport in Japan is not a 24/7 thing. If you find yourself in an unfamiliar place late at night, you can get yourself an English-speaking Uber driver to take you home.

You may need Google Translate.

Japan is not a predominantly English-speaking country. If you are not familiar with the Japanese language, using Google Translate is a big help to communicate with the locals.

Japan is a great country to visit. But for any trip, you need to be prepared. Always have a functional smartphone with you for a smoother, hassle-free journey.
