Backed by The Vanguard, D’Angelo looked timelessly stylish as he performed “Really Love” and “The Charade” off of his surprise album Black Messiah.
During “The Charade” The Vanguard wore black shirts with “Black Live Matter” and “I Can’t Breathe,” both rallying cries for justice in the wake of so many recent incidents of police brutality, as D’Angelo sang the words: “All we wanted was a chance to talk / ‘Stead we only got outlined in chalk / Feet have bled a million miles we’ve walked / Revealing at the end of the day, the charade.”
