Filmmaker Ava DuVernay will be directing and executive producing the pilot for CBS drama For Justice. The series, which is based on the James Patterson novel, The Thomas Berryman Number, will be written and executive produced by Rene Balcer, who is best known for Law & Order.

Variety reports that Robert De Niro is also attached to the project.

This announcement marks the second major television project for Ava DuVernay. Last week it was reported that she will be creating a series for the OWN network based on the novel Queen Sugar.
