When rumors first hit the web, last fall, that ethereal indie singer FKA twigs was dating Twilight star Robert Pattinson, Pattinson’s insane fandom quickly mobilized, hitting twigs with a barrage of threats and racist comments.
twigs spoke out about the comments back in September, calling the online abuse “unacceptable.” She recently opened up with the New York Times about all the attention she had been receiving over relationship and recent engagement.
“It’s really hard — I can’t begin to explain how awful it is,” she said. “It makes you want to just stop everything sometimes. It makes you want to smash your face into the mirror.”
twigs also stated that her attention their relationship has received, particularly the racist attention, hasn’t influenced her work in anyway.
“There’s no amount of songs I can sing or dances I can dance that will prove to them I’m not a monkey,” she tells the Times.
FKA twigs delivered a haunting show in Brooklyn to a sold out audience, earlier this week. The performance has received rave reviews.
