You’ve met the talented conscious rapper Yani, of Yani and the Peace People. She’s been hard at work putting together a book, Love Poems for Peace, as well as a song titled ‘They Shootin’. The latter done out of questioning the grave injustices faced in the black community as it relates to the killing of our young black men. The killing of Trayvon Martin was senseless, Jordan Davis was a tough pill to swallow, the list goes on. Yani felt like the only way to articulate what she was feeling was to use her words, putting her questions in a song, thus came about ‘They Shootin’. Yani states ‘I wrote this song because my words are all I have as a lover of peace and believer in a better more peaceful and just world. As for her book of prose, Love poems for Peace, Yani wrote it for the lover, the fighter, the dreamer. Hop on the peace train with Yani, she’s putting out some quality stuff that’s worth you taking a look.
