Michelle Obama Collaborates With InStyle Magazine For a Charitable Handbag Line.

Michelle Obama Let Girls Learn InStyle

First Lady Michelle Obama has teamed up InStyle Magazine and a group of top fashion designers as part of her “Let Girls Learn initiative.

The project is aimed at stressing the importance of educating girls all over the world. Over the past year, Obama has traveled all over the world and held leadership conferences at The White House in order to raise awareness and raise funds for “Let Girls Learn.”

For her handbag collaboration, she teamed up with Carolina Herrera, Prabal Gurung, DKNY, Jason Wu, Tanya Taylor, Narciso Rodriguez, and Diane Von Furstenberg to design a line of bags exclusively available at InStyle.com. Prices start at $52, and 100% of the proceeds will go to “Let Girls Learn.”

The team of designers drew inspiration from a variety of sources, includes places that are deeply personal to them.

For his design, Prabal Gurung was inspired by South Africa, where he says “the colors and textures are so rich.” South Africa is also home to a program spearheaded by the Peace Corps that encourages young girls to pursue STEM educations.
