While the sword-wielding badass Michonne is quite a fan favorite, some feel the character might be too aggressive to the point of being one dimensional. Especially, when one considers how women of color are often presented as hyper-aggressive without backstories in ensemble casts. But despite the fact that fans that have told Gurira that they would like to see her character’s softer side, she simply says: “She’s had vulnerable moments, but I always wonder, Do you want her to walk around crying all the time?”
