Raven-Symoné (Sort of) Apologizes For ‘Ghetto Names’ Remark After Her Own Father Calls Her Out.

In case you missed it, last Friday The View co-host Raven-Symoné set Twitter ablaze with her latest seriously misguided comment. During a discussion about racist assumptions, the former Cosby kid dropped this little gem:

“I’m very discriminatory against words like the ones they were saying in those names. I’m not about to hire you if your name is Watermelondrea.”

Although Raven was referencing a pretty well known viral video about the 60 “most ghetto” names, there is still some pretty serious baggage attached to her statements.

Soon after she was ethered, read, shaded and torn apart on every corner of the internet.


Raven’s own father even got into the mix by taking to Facebook to post an open letter, in which he declared that while she loves his daughter, sometimes she “says some dumb S#%T!”

The growing controversy prompted Raven to issue a pretty contrite, but strangely noncommittal apology, the television host claiming that her comments were not directed at any race in particular.

While I hope that this situation marks a turning point for Raven-Symoné, I’m pretty sure we’ll be having this conversation again sometime in the near future.
