Beauty and Death Immortalized. Lake Natron. Tanzania. by Nick Brandt.

Lake Natron, Tanzania, Nick Brandt

With a pH of 10.5, nearly as alkaline as ammonia, any animals that attempt to enter Lake Natron, are guaranteed certain death, save for a few species of fish that have managed to adapt to one of the harshest environments in the world. The bodies of the dead animals become calcified, and essentially immortalized. The animals are further immortalized in this series by photographer Nick Brandt.
