Actress Gabourey Sidibe is set to make her directorial debut with VR29 Studios, a new project by beauty and fashion portal Refinery29.
VR29 Studios is a virtual-reality production studio, that features two dedicated YouTube channels — RIOT, a comedy channel and Brawlers, a network that covers women in sports. The studio will also create programming for Facebook Live and Instagram.
Sidibe will produce a film for VR29’s ShatterBox Anthology, a series of 12 original short films, produced by women. Actresses Kristen Stewart and America Ferrara are also set to direct short films of their own. Sidibe’s film is titled “A Tale of Four Women,” Stewart’s is currently titled “Water.”
“We are proud to be collaborating with award-winning talent to create a slate of female-focused content that showcases what it is to be powerful in a nontraditional way,” said Amy Emmerich, chief content officer at Refinery29.
