Carl Van Vechten, Harlem Photographs, Images of African-American History


Carl Van Vechten was a white man, often described as a “hipster”. He befriended and photographed some of Harlem’s greatest literary artistic minds such as Zora Neale Hurston and Langston Hughes, while living and working in New York City from the 1930 to the 1960’s.
