Directed by Thomas Allen Harris, Through a Lens Darkly is a compelling documentary that features to stories of 26 groundbreaking African-American photographers. The film looks beyond the photographs, and examines the history of photographic depictions of African-Americans, from slavery to present-day. It also features perspectives from contemporary photographers, including Carrie Mae Weems.
